Tiền đề của tự do nằm trong tất yếu, tự do là sản phẩm của tất yếu, tự do được hiểu là năng lực hoạt động, là khả năng sáng tạo, mà nhờ đó, còn người tự giải phóng khỏi mọi tính tất yếu bền ngoài, làm chủ bản thân và thế giới tự nhiên trên cơ sở hiểu biết các tất yếu và hành động phù hợp với nó. Tất yếu chuyển hóa thành tự do khi tất yếu đã được nhận thức, tức khi "tất yếu tự nó" đã trở thành "tất yếu coh ta". Vì thế, điều đó cũng khẳng định tự do là sản phẩm tất yếu của sự phát triển lịch sử, mỗi bước của nền văn minh là một bước tiến gần tự do.
