The cross sectional study "Situation on injury and knowledge, attitudes and practices on injury prevention of upper secondary school students in Luc Yen District, Yen Bai province, 2011" was conducted among 402 students in 2011. The study results showed that the overall prevalence of injury among upper secondary school students in Luc Yen district was 28.9 percent, of which, the percentage of injury among male and female students accounted for 63.8 percent and 36.2 percent respectively. Among all causes of injury, sharp hand-cut ranked the highest (32.8 percent), and the lowest was drowning (3.6 percent). Among all the study respondents, 25.4 percent had low general knowledge on injury prevention. Their attitude when hearing or witnessing injury was 87.3 percent. Only 32.3 percent students regularly practiced to prevent injury. The study had found an association between knowledge and practices of students on injury prevention and the situation of injury among them. From the study results, several recommendations were made available for policy advocacy, such as appropriate coordination regulations to share information on injury prevention between schools and families should be implemented

promoting communication on injury prevention with a focus on school students, especially on male students. The contents of the communication should focus on high risk injuries such as sharp injuries, falls, animal bites, traffic injuries etc.
