BACKGROUND AND AIM: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) remains one of the major causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide, including Bangladesh. SIRT1, an NAD-dependent deacetylase, is involved in energy homeostasis and protects β-cells of the pancreas from oxidative stress. Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the METHODS: 72 T2DM patients and 90 healthy controls were enrolled in our study and polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) was employed for genotyping the SNP.
