In the context of globalization and rapid technological advancement, learning English has become essential for individuals across society. This study examines the state and challenges of English self-study among first-year students at Hoa Lu University, particularly focusing on the integration of information technology (IT) in their learning. Despite the availability of various online tools, many students struggle with effective self-study and utilizing IT to enhance their English skills. Through surveys and interviews with students and faculty, the research identifies key factors influencing self-study practices and highlights the benefits and obstacles associated with technology use. The findings emphasize the need for targeted solutions to improve self-study effectiveness, including raising students’ awareness of the importance of self-learning and IT applications.
