Digital transformation of library activities is an inevitable trend aimed at "applying technology to improve the operational capacity of libraries, contributing to building a modern library network to ensure service provision and meet needs." of users, contributing to improving people's knowledge and building a learning society".Nhu cầu chuyển đổi số hiện nay đang phát triển ở nhiều lĩnh vực, thư viện cũng không nằm ngoài xu hướng ấy. Trước sự phát triển mạnh mẽ của khoa học công nghệ và với những thách thức được đặt ra của cuộc cách mạng 4.0 đòi hỏi các thư viện phải ứng dụng công nghệ thông tin (CNTT) và chuyển đổi số để nâng cao chất lượng, tăng cường hiệu quả phục vụ đáp ứng yêu cầu thông tin ngày càng cao và đa dạng của người sử dụng thư viện mọi lúc, mọi nơi [7]. Theo từ điển bách khoa toàn thư mở Wikipedia: “Chuyển đổi số là việc vận dụng tính luôn đổi mới, nhanh chóng của công nghệ kỹ thuật số để giải quyết vấn đề”.
