 The need for slow dynamics models of renewable resources in cascade modeling essentially arises from the challenges associated with the increased use of solar and wind electric power. Indeed, the main challenge is that the power produced by wind and sunlight is not consistent
  thus, renewable energy resources tend to have variable output power on many different timescales, including the timescales that a cascade unfolds.
