The overall goal was to assist XL Hybrids in successfully bringing hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) into commercial service and to promote these energy-efficient technologies in the marketplace as a strategy to reduce the carbon footprint from freight operations. The objectives were to (1) document the fuel economy (FE) improvement over the standard baseline vehicle and (2) provide technical recommendations for optimizing FE and performance of the control strategy under typical commercial pick-up and delivery operations.
