This paper presents the design and fluid spray profile of a modular pintle injector for pressurized oxy-coal combustion systems. Although pintle injectors have been traditionally used in rocket engines, it presents a promising approach in clean coal combustion technology due to effectiveness and enhanced performance. Thus, a detailed design of a pintle injection developed for pressurized oxy-coal combustion has been presented in this work. Additionally, the fluid injection and spray angles have been characterized through shadowgraph imaging. Furthermore, droplet size, Reynolds number, Weber number and Ohnesorge number have also been characterize through shadowgraphy. At the highest mass flow of gaseous propellant, the spray presents the smallest droplet size. Comparisons between different concentrations of weight are achieved. Ohnesorge and Reynolds are compared to determine atomization mechanisms
