Southern Research [SR] demonstrated a new process using rationally designed nano-engineered catalysts to produce high yield of light olefins by using CO<

from coal-fired flue gas. Multiple catalysts and process conditions, designed systematically were tested to find the optimum conditions for which maximum yield could be achieved. Southern research team has specifically targeted CO<

-rich and marginally purified coal-fired flue gas streams as feedstock for this process. Systematic reaction analysis in presence of different key flue gas components (e.g., O<

 , SO<

) were used for testing catalyst stability and performance level. A techno-economic and life cycle assessment based on the results revealed various aspects of commercialization of this process.
