Bài viết khảo sát và phân tích ngôn ngữ với chức năng đánh giá, phán xét trongvăn bản bình luận về xã hội trên báo chí tiếng Anh và tiếng Việt. Theo hướng tiếp cậnmới, dựa trên Lý thuyết đánh giá ngôn ngữ (Appraisal Theory) của Martin & White(2005), kết hợp cùng phương pháp mô tả các thông tin định tính và định lượng, ngôn ngữmang giá trị đánh giá và phán xét được phân loại theo các phạm trù ngữ nghĩa tích cực vàtiêu cực
thể hiện dưới hình thức hiển ngôn và hàm ngôn. Kết quả nghiên cứu sẽ gópphần cung cấp cho người dạy và học ngoại ngữ những kiến thức cơ bản để hiểu và sửdụng chính xác ngôn ngữ đánh giá trong đọc hiểu, viết và dịch thuật văn bản bình luậntrên báo chí.The purpose of this paper is to analyze the use of language expressing Judgmentand Appreciation in English and Vietnamese newspaper articles of social issues. In the lightof Appraisal Theory (Martin & White, 2005), the study reveals that Judgment andAppreciation expressions are realized in two and three sub-types respectively
all theseexpressions can be explicit or implicit with different word classes and scale. The studymakes use of both qualitative and quantitative information employing descriptive method.On the basis of the findings, the article puts forward several implications and suggestions onreading comprehension, writing, translating the language of Judgment, Appreciation as wellas learning and teaching English through language of Judgment and Appreciation inparticular and Appraisal language in general.
