China is the upstream country of the Lancang - Mekong River which flows through Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam before draining into the East Sea. Therefore, the cooperative attitude is shown by the Chinese has played an important role in sustainable exploitation and development of this river. This paper presents and analyses China’s guidelines and policies in Lancang-Mekong cooperation both at national and local levels, from which some preliminary remarks and assessments are drawn.
