The term “populism” is commonly used to refer to populist movements in the U.S. and Russia in the second half of the 19th century. However, the debate about populism is of particular interest to the international community in connection with its rise in the ﬁ rst decades of the 21st century and its great impacts on political and social life in many regions and countries worldwide. Currently, it is still vague to identify populism in terms of its characteristics, nature, manifestations and trends. The article contributes to the study of populism by examining the aspects such as 1) Identify the deﬁ nition of populism
2) Present the development of populism in history
3) Comment on its characteristics and impacts in the contemporary world.Thuật ngữ “Chủ nghĩa dân túy” (Populism) được sử dụng phổ biến để đề cập đến những phong trào dân túy ở Mỹ và Nga nửa sau thế kỷ XIX. Tuy nhiên, sự tranh luận về chủ nghĩa dân túy được cộng đồng quốc tế đặc biệt quan tâm gắn với sự trỗi dậy của nó vào những thập niên đầu thế kỷ XXI và những tác động lớn của nó đến đời sống chính trị - xã hội ở nhiều khu vực và quốc gia trên thế giới. Cho đến nay, việc nhận diện về chủ nghĩa dân túy (ở những khía cạnh: nguồn gốc, đặc trưng, bản chất và những biểu hiện, xu hướng) vẫn chưa có sự thống nhất. Bài viết góp phần: 1) Nhận diện về nội hàm của chủ nghĩa dân túy
2) Trình bày sự phát triển của chủ nghĩa dân túy trong lịch sử
3) Nhận xét về đặc điểm và tác động của chủ nghĩa dân túy trên thế giới hiện nay.
