In 2008, Vietnam and the United States held the first political - security - defense dialogue. Since then, the defense and security relationship between Vietnam and the United States has been constantly developing. It is the need for cooperation to maintain order, security and peace in the region and the common strategic interests of the two countries are important motivation contributing to the promotion of Vietnam - U.S. defense and security relations progress. Following the development momentum of the comprehensive partnership between Vietnam and the United States, defense and security cooperation has also been strongly strengthened by the two governments, develop deeply and substantively. Through historical, logical, document analysis and research methods, the content of the article contributes to clarifying the needs and main factors affecting and promoting the progress of defense and security relations of Vietnam - the United States from 2008 to present. In addition, the research results also highlight the achievements in the defense and security relationship between Vietnam and the United States, and analyze the development prospects of this relationship in the future.Năm 2008, Việt Nam và Hoa Kỳ tổ chức cuộc đối thoại chính trị - an ninh - quốc phòng đầu tiên. Kể từ đây, quan hệ quốc phòng, an ninh Việt Nam - Hoa Kỳ không ngừng phát triển. Nhu cầu hợp tác nhằm duy trì trật tự, an ninh và hòa bình trong khu vực cộng thêm sự song trùng về lợi ích chiến lược của hai quốc gia là những động lực quan trọng góp phần thúc đẩy quan hệ quốc phòng, an ninh Việt - Mỹ tiến triển. Nối tiếp đà phát triển của quan hệ đối tác toàn diện Việt Nam - Hoa Kỳ, hợp tác quốc phòng, an ninh cũng được chính quyền hai nước tăng cường mạnh mẽ, phát triển ngày càng sâu rộng và đi vào thực chất. Thông qua các phương pháp lịch sử, logic, phân tích và khảo cứu tài liệu, nội dung bài viết góp phần chỉ rõ những nhu cầu và nhân tố chính tác động, thúc đẩy sự tiến triển của quan hệ quốc phòng, an ninh Việt Nam - Hoa Kỳ kể từ năm 2008 đến nay. Ngoài ra, kết quả nghiên cứu còn nêu bật những thành tựu đạt được trong quan hệ quốc phòng, an ninh Việt Nam - Hoa Kỳ, đồng thời phân tích những triển vọng phát triển của mối quan hệ này trong tương lai.
