Announced on June 11th, 1948, President Ho Chi Minh’s Appeal for Patriotic Emulation has initiated the movement of revolutionary emulation on a nationwide scale. Over the past 74 years, emulation and commendation has contributed to mobilizing the great strength of national unity and at the same time, inspiring all creative potentials, national pride and patriotism of all social classes. There was no doubt that all achievements of our country's revolution were made possible by various patriotic emulation movements. Presently, in the era of comprehensive and intensive international integration, the emulation and commendation has played an increasingly important role in Viet Nam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, by giving directions, creating motivation, sustaining career passion and clinging to revolutionary ideals to its employees. In turn, it helped to build up forces of professional, creative, idealistic and inspirational diplomats. Following an in-depth analysis of the emulation and commendation’s role in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the current state assessment and the causes of its strengths and weaknesses, the article proposed seven groups of solutions to comprehensively innovate emulation and commendation, which contributed to a comprehensive and modern diplomacy.Ngày 11/06/1948, Chủ tịch Hồ Chí Minh đã ra “Lời kêu gọi thi đua ái quốc”, mở đầu cho phong trào thi đua cách mạng của toàn dân. 74 năm qua, công tác thi đua, khen thưởng đã góp phần động viên sức mạnh to lớn của khối đại đoàn kết toàn dân tộc, khơi dậy mọi tiềm năng sáng tạo, lòng tự hào dân tộc, tinh thần yêu nước của các tầng lớp nhân dân. Có thể nói, mọi thành quả của cách mạng nước ta đều gắn liền với việc tổ chức hiệu quả các phong trào thi đua yêu nước. Trong thời kỳ hội nhập quốc tế toàn diện, sâu rộng hiện nay, công tác thi đua, khen thưởng của Bộ Ngoại giao ngày càng có vai trò quan trọng trong việc xây dựng phương hướng, tạo động lực, vun đắp tình yêu ngành, yêu nghề, xây dựng lý tưởng cách mạng
từ đó góp phần xây dựng đội ngũ cán bộ ngoại giao bản lĩnh, chuyên nghiệp, sáng tạo, có lý tưởng và khát vọng. Bài viết đi sâu vào phân tích vai trò của công tác thi đua, khen thưởng
đánh giá hiện trạng công tác thi đua, khen thưởng trong Bộ Ngoại giao hiện nay và nguyên nhân của những tồn tại, hạn chế
từ đó đưa ra bảy nhóm giải pháp nhằm đổi mới toàn diện công tác thi đua, khen thưởng, góp phần xây dựng ngành ngoại giao toàn diện, hiện đại.
