Cây Mía dò với tên khoa học là Costus specciosus (Koen.) Sm. thuộc họ Gừng (Zingiberaceae) được chứng minh là có tác dụng chữa tiểu đường và giảm cholesterol rất hiệu quả. Tuy nhiên, hiện tại vẫn chưa có nhiều tài liệu nghiên cứu đầy đủ về các đặc điểm hình thái và giải phẫu của loài này tại Việt Nam để làm cơ sở cho việc định danh và kiểm nghiệm về mặt vi học dược liệu này. Nhằm khảo sát đặc điểm hình thái và vi học cũng như định tính các hoạt chất dược liệu có trong cây Mía dò để cung cấp cơ sở dữ liệu giúp nhậndiện và kiểm nghiệm dược liệu này. Sau khi xác định tên khoa học của loài bằng cách so sánh các đặc điểm đã khảo sát với các tài liệu, việc phân tích, mô tả, chụp hình các đặc điểm hình thái, giải phẫu và định tính các chất có hoạt tính sinh học ở cây Mía dò đã được thực hiện. Kết quả cho thấy: Hình thái: Phần gốc của thân khí sinh thường thẳng và phần trên có hình xoắn ốc. Hoa: Đều, lưỡng tính, mẫu 3. Giải phẫu: Vi phẫu rễ hình tròn chia làm hai vùng rõ rệt, vùng vỏ lớn hơn vùng trụ. Vi phẫu thân hình tròn và đường viền bên ngoài lồi lõm. Vi phẫu cắt ngang của lá có mặt trên hơi lõm phần giữa, mặt dưới lồi nhiều. Các hoạt chất carbohydrat, coumarin, flavonoid, saponin, protein và acid amin hiện diện ở 3 bộ phận thân rễ, thân khí sinh và lá.Costus specciosus (Koen.) Sm. (Zingiberaceae) has proved to be effective in the treatment of diabete và cholesterol levels. However, the document of morphological and anatomical characteristics of this species in Viet Nam is still negligible. It is necessary to establish the document of morphological and anatomical characteristics of this species. To investigate the morphological and anatomical characteristics as well as to qualitatively analysis the bioactive ingredients in Costus specciosus (Koen.) Sm. province wereperformed for plant identification. The scientific name of species was determined by comparison of morphological and anatomical characteristics with those in the reported documents. Morphological and anatomical characteristics of used parts of Costus specciosus (Koen.) Sm. was analysed, described and photographed. Beside that, the bioactive ingredients in Costus specciosus (Koen.) Sm. was analysed. The results so that:Morphology: Stems more or less woody at base, unbranched, spirally twisted in upper part. Flowers regular, bisexual, 3 merous. Anatomy: Root - Cylindrical, divided into two distinct regions, the cortical region is larger than the cylindrical region. Stems - Cylindrical and convex outer contour. Rhizomes, stem and leaves of Costus specciosus (Koen.) Sm. contain carbohydrats, coumarins, flavonoids, saponins, proteins and amino acid.
