A majority of freshmen of English-major students of the 60th course of Nha Trang University were afraid of writing skills because they were lack of vocabulary, ideas, social knowledge and made a lot of grammar mistakes. The purpose of this paper is to find out if doing a project of a small newspaper could improve paragraph writing skills compared with individual writing homework. The objects were 32 students of the experiment class (class 60NNA-5) and 32 students of the traditional class (class 60NNA-6) who studied Writing 2, writing academic paragraphs. Both qualitative methods (interviews) and quantitative methods (pre-test, online survey and posttest) were utilized in this paper. Research results showed that doing a project helped to improve 20% writing skills of English-major students, group work skills, vocabulary and grammar. Besides, students developed skills of time management and designing small paper.Đa số sinh viên chuyên ngữ khóa 60 trường Đại học Nha Trang e ngại kỹ năng viết đoạn văn vì thiếu vốn từ vựng, ý tưởng, kiến thức xã hội, và các lỗi ngữ pháp. Mục đích của bài báo này là tìm hiểu xem làm bài tập về nhà theo đề án là tờ báo nhỏ có cải thiện kỹ năng viết đoạn văn so với sinh viên làm bài tập cá nhân hay không. Đối tượng nghiên cứu là 32 sinh viên lớp thử nghiệm 60NNA-5 và 32 sinh viên lớp truyền thống 60NNA-6 học môn Viết 2, và làm bài tập về nhà theo hai cách khác nhau. Bài viết sử dụng phương pháp nghiên cứu định tính (phỏng vấn sâu cá nhân) và phương pháp định lượng (kiểm tra đầu vào, khảo sát trực tuyến, so sánh kết quả cuối kỳ của hai lớp). Kết quả nghiên cứu cho thấy làm đề án bài tập về nhà đã cải thiện 20% kỹ năng viết đoạn văn của sinh viên chuyên ngữ, kỹ năng làm việc nhóm, từ vựng và ngữ pháp. Ngoài ra, sinh viên còn phát triển kỹ năng quản lý thời gian và thiết kế, chỉnh sửa tờ báo nhỏ.
