Modern technology has completely reshaped the entire education system. The digitally empowered classrooms over the internet have made education available to everyone who wants to learn across the world, anytime, any subject and anywhere. Blended learning is a type of learning that combines remote and face-to-face teaching. Blended learning gives an opportunity to make a shift from traditional methods to more innovative ones with the use of technology, which encourages both teaching and learning, provides flexibility in education. In English classes, Blended learning allows students to practice all four language skills: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. However, there are still many problems that need to be solved in order to raise the effectiveness of Blended learning in English teaching. This paper considers the prospects and challenges of using Blended learning in teaching English to university students, and suggests some recommendations in applying this model in higher education institutions in Vietnam.
