The story of the murder of a law ex-student namedRaskolnikov is told in Dostoevsky’s “Crime andPunishment”. After suppressing his crime for several days intremendous agony and terrible suffering in his conscience,Raskolnikov resolved to confess his wrong doing to hiscompanion, Sonia. In his confession, Raskolnikov revealssome motives for his crime, but he does not explain exactlywhy the elderly woman ought to be murdered. The tale thenpresents a mystery, a crime, as a result of Raskolnikov’spredestination. The purpose of this article is to prove that themotive of Raskolnikov’s crime is not his destiny, but rootedfrom his mind.Dostoevsky’s “Crime and Punishment”, first published inRussia in 1866, is one of the masterpieces of the greatRussian writer Fyodor Mikhailovitch Dostoevsky(Dostoevsky). This well-known work has been widelytranslated and popularized in many countries.
