Learner autonomy, a notion which is rooted in European philosophy, has attracted more and more attention in worldwide university education. Its importance in language acquisition has been widely recognized. This paper is looking at a number of definitions of learner autonomy, language learner autonomy, its importance as well as different ways of categorizing language learner autonomy in terms of its levels. Basing on the current situation of learning and teaching English at the University of Economics and Business, Vietnam National Univeristy, Hanoi and some of the research on this issue worldwwide, some suggestions have been proposed to promote language learner autonomy among UEB students.
