The paper examines the soldier's self through two typical works of Vietnam War literature, The Sorrow of War by Bao Ninh and The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien, in two aspects human self and ecological one. The human selves which are influenced by the different ideological paradigms between the East and the West regulates the different selves between Vietnamese soldiers and American soldiers. The ecological self which is influenced by the common ecological environment reflects the resemblance between the soldiers, or f-rom another perspective, between human beings and the ecosystem.
