Itisobviousthatthesignificantintroductionanddevelopmentofbridgesimulatorsnowadaysprovidesanadvancedtoolformaritimetraining.Apartfromtheeducationalfunction,thesimulatorscanbeexploitedforthefeasibilitystudyofshipmaneuveringforexistingports,shipsunderoperationaswellasinthedesignphase.Thus,itisnecessarytosetuppropershipmathematicalmodelsandestablishascientificprocessforassessmentofshipmaneuveringinsimulators.Thispaperaimstosystematicallyintroducethemathematicalmodellingandproposeamethodtoassesstheshipmaneuveringinsixdegreesoffreedomandinreal-timemode.Themathematicalmodelandassessmentmethodwereusedinsomeappliedresearchprojectswhichhavebeenpracticallyconductedbythestudygroupduringtheresearchingduration.
