Currently, the 2018 General Education Program has been implemented with the aim of developing the competences and qualities of students. In addition, it also requires innovation in teaching methods and techniques to comprehensively develop competences and qualities. In particular, practicing active reading skills is extremely important and urgent today to develop personal reading skills, collaborative reading and practice to develop students' language abilities. For high school students, the current teaching models used in classes are not diverse and difficult to access, present personal opinions and give positive feedback. The "Literary Circle" is a famous model that helps students practice their language skills and some specific and useful operations for lessons. Therefore, the research was conducted to analyze and apply the "Literary Circle" model in teaching to develop the language competence required by the 2018 GEP. What is the “Literary Discussion Circle” model? How to proceed? In the article, we aim to solve the above two problems. Research results show that lessons using the "Literary Discussion Circle" model are highly appreciated by students because they help them improve reading, speaking-listening skills and diversify their experiences with the same text.
