Thehigh-risebuildingshavebeenmoreandmorebuiltinlargeurbansinVietnam,ofespeciallyHanoiandHoChiMinhCity.Thebasementsofthesebuildingsarepopularlyconstructedbyusingretainingwallsassociatedwiththetop-downmethod.Therefore,anestimationofthelateraldisplacementofthewallsisextremelyimportantintheconstructionprocess.ThispaperpredictsthedisplacementofthediaphragmwallsindeepexcavationsofHk12minHanoiaccountingforseismicloading.Thewallsarestablysustainedusingsoilnailsystems,struts,andtop-downmethod.Afiniteelementanalysissoftware,PLAXIS2D,isutilizedtomodelthesystems.ThreesoilmodelsincludingLinear-Elastic, Morh-Coulomb,andHardeningSoil modelsare considered in thenumericalanalyses,whiletheelasticbeamelementisappliedfortheretainingwalls.Aseismic-effectedratio(Kcisquantifiedintermsofthemaximumlateraldisplacementinducedbytheearthquaketothemaximumdisplacementduetothestaticload.Theresultsshowthattheseismic-effectedratiosarearrangedfrom 1.4 to1.28,1.61to2.61,and1.53to1.99forMohr-Coulomb,HardeningSoil,andElasticsoilmodels,respectively.
