At the University of Engineering and Technology, listening comprehension is a major issue for first-year students because most of them did not learn this skill in school. Because of their limited vocabulary, the speakers’ rapid speech, and their ignorance of some basic pronunciation rules like linking sounds and elision, students find it difficult to catch the words. Numerous techniques have been used, including the dictation method, to help students develop their listening skills. This writing presents the definition, benefits, and drawbacks of the approach, how to carry out the activity as well as how it affects learning listening skills.
