Friction Stir Welding (FSW) was introduced in 1991 by the Welding Institute (WI) in Cambridge, UK. FSW welding, a new field that has made great strides in the past decade, is an environmentally friendly green technology (it does not create toxic gases when welding, and does not emit arc rays and radiant energy). In addition, FSW welding overcomes many difficulties that traditional welding methods have, there is no need to use filler metal to fill the weld, the weld has little deformation and does not crack when crystallizing. Using CNC milling machines to weld FSW is very promising in welding non-ferrous metals, metals with high ductility and low melting point.
