In this research, two textbooks designed for non-specialized students, “New English Files - Pre-Intermediate” and “New English Files - Intermediate,” were selected to analyze text genres in the reading text. In total, there are 66 reading texts, 38 of which are from Pre-Intermediate level and 28 are from the Intermediate level. The findings show that there are a variety of text genres between the two levels. The most predominant genre appearing in both levels is narrative, emphasizing its significance in language learning. The study concludes by highlighting the importance of understanding text genres in language teaching and giving suggestions to enhance students’ exposure to language forms effectively.
