Teaching writing presents significant challenges for educators, particularly in determining suitable materials for students. Content-based instruction often employs authentic materials for teaching. Authentic materials for teaching writing can be classified into audio, visual, and printed formats. Previous studies indicate the effectiveness of authentic materials in teaching procedural, descriptive, and essay writing. This paper aims to discuss: (1)The theoretical link between Content-Based Instruction and authentic materials for teaching writing in classrooms. (2)Previous research on the use of authentic materials in teaching writing. (3) Various types of authentic materials suitable for teaching writing (4)The advantages and disadvantages of incorporating authentic materials in writing instruction.
