Denis Diderot's development as a writer is characterised by his permanent endeavour to surpass his own technical achievements. This incessant search for constantly new styles of writing is not only an expression of his impressive artistic finesse, but also a constitutive element of his partially firm political objectives. This book draws attention to the political dimensions of Diderot's virtuosity as a writer and examines in particular their productive reception in German-speaking countries. Denis Diderots Entwicklung als Schriftsteller ist geprägt von einer permanenten formalen Überbietung.
