The communicative approach has revolutionized language teaching by focusing on developing practical communication skills. This article provides an overview of this method, covering its historical development, objectives, teaching content, materials, and instructional steps. While encouraging learners’ creativity and autonomy, the approach also faces challenges in understanding and updating new materials. Nevertheless, by emphasizing the authenticity of teaching materials and communicative situations, the communicative approach has brought positive advancements in language teaching and learning. To optimize its effectiveness, further research is needed to propose suitable solutions and contribute to the development of language proficiency and cross-cultural communication.
