Quaternary sediments in the Binh Tri Thien coastal zone are diverse in both material composition and development history. From land to sea, there are 4 structural regions: i) marginal plain region
ii) Coastal lagoon region
iii) Coastal sand dunes region
and iv) Monocline coastal subsidence region. In the vertical direction, all four regions have five sedimentary cycles as follows: a) Early Pleistocene (Q1 1)
b) Early middle Pleistocene (Q1 2a)
c) Late middle Pleistocene (Q1 2b)
d) Early late Pleistocene (Q1 3a)
e) Late late Pleistocene (Q1 3b-Q2). Four structural zones are characterized by different lithofacies complexes: 1) In the lowstand systems tract (LST) at the beginning of each cycle in all 4 structural zones, the SmaLST facies complex is present
2) In the transgressive systems tract (TST), there are the following lithofacies complexes: a) region I: MsbTST
b) region II: MlgTST
c) region III: SmTST
d) region IV: Msam,mTST
3) In the highstand systems tract (HST) there are the following facies complexes: a) Region I: (MsabHST)
b) Region II: MslgHST
c) Region III: SmvHST
d) Region IV: SmmHST. The difference in sedimentary facies in the transgressive and highstand systems tract depends on the differentiation of four geological structure regions.Trầm tích Đệ Tứ đới bờ Bình Trị Thiên đa dạng cả về thành phần vật chất và lịch sử phát triển. Từ đất liền ra biển có 4 vùng cấu trúc: i) Vùng đồng bằng ven rìa
ii) Vùng lagoon ven biển
iii) Vùng cồn cát ven biển
và iv) Vùng sụt lún đơn nghiêng ven biển. Theo phương thẳng đứng trong cả 4 vùng đều có 5 chu kỳ trầm tích như sau: 1) Pleistocen sớm (Q1 1)
2) Pleistocen giữa phần sớm (Q1 2a)
3) Pleistocen giữa phần muộn (Q1 2b)
4) Pleistocen muộn phần sớm (Q1 3a)
5) Pleistocen muộn, phần muộn-Holocen (Q1 3b-Q2). Từ đất liền ra biển 4 vùng cấu trúc được đặc trưng bởi các phức hệ tướng khác nhau: 1) Trong pha biển thoái (LST) đầu mỗi chu kỳ trong cả 4 vùng cấu trúc đều có mặt phức hệ tướng SmaLST
2) Trong pha biển tiến (TST) có các phức hệ tướng sau: a) Vùng I: MsbTST
b) Vùng II: MlgTST
c) Vùng III: SmTST
d) Vùng IV: Msam,mTST
3) Trong pha biển cao (HST) có các phức hệ tướng sau: a) Vùng I: (MsabHST)
b) Vùng II: MslgHST
c) Vùng III: SmvHST
d) Vùng IV: SmmHST. Sự khác nhau về tướng trầm tích trong miền hệ thống biển tiến và biển cao là phụ thuộc vào sự phân hoá của 4 vùng cấu trúc địa chất.
