English speaking skills are one of the most important language skills, especially in a communicative environment. Today’s world requires the goal of teaching speaking to improve students’ communication skills, because only then can students express themselves and learn to follow appropriate cultural and social rules in each communication situation. Over the years, the quality of English teaching for students at universities has been constantly improved, and the level and ability of English of students have gradually met the job requirements after graduation. However, students’ English speaking skills at universities generally have certain limitations. In order to contribute to overcoming these shortcomings, within the scope of the article, the author explores the current situation of lecturers’ teaching, students’ learning of English speaking skills and gives some suggestions on speaking skills teaching methods to improve the quality of English teaching in universities today.
