This study focuses on evaluating the system of communication situation exercises in teaching Practical Vietnamese to 10th-grade students. The goal is to determine the effectiveness of this system of exercises in enhancing students’ language and communication skills. Data were collected from a system of surveys, exercises in the 10th-grade Vietnamese textbook (2006), and three sets of Vietnamese textbooks (2018). The use of communication situation exercises in teaching Practical Vietnamese has shown significant improvements in students’ language and communication skills, as well as in their ability to respond to real-life situations. Therefore, communication situation exercises are a useful and effective tool in teaching Practical Vietnamese, meeting the requirements of the 2018 general education program.
