Background: Lichtenstein's hernioplasty began in 1986 and this procedure is now considered as the gold standard of hernia repair. The purpose of this study is assessing the results of use polypropylene mesh by Lichtenstein's in middle-aged patients and elderly patients at Hue central hospital. Materials and method: Prospective study of 73 inguinal hernia 40 years old and over 40 old years patients with 82 hernioplasty of operation by Lichtenstein technique, from June 2009 to ovember 2010 at Hue central hospital. Result: The mean age 69.31 + or - 9.98 year, indirect in 45.12 percent, direct in 32.93 percent, combined 21.95 percent, unlateral 87.67 percent, bilateral 12.33 percent. Early results post-operative was 86.56 percent od, 9.76 percent rather good, 3.66 percent medium and in 6 months follow-up time was 97.56 percent good, 2.44 percent rather good, no recurrence.
