Descriptive study at cultivating, aquaculture, poultry and livestock farms in Nam Dinh province from June 2009 to October 2010 showed that: the use of fertilizer in farming was still varied with 10.0 percent of farms using untreated human manure for growing vegetables
26.7 percent of aquaculture facilities using fresh human manure. The use of sex drugs and growth stimulants increased very fast with 28.0 percent abusing growth stimulants and 36.0 percent of abusing sex drugs. There are about 50 vegetable samples found infected with E. coli, Salmonella and coli forms. A total of 22.2 percent of raw vegetable samples was found infected with ascarid eggs. Insecticide contamination in fresh fruit and vegetables also occurred widely with cowpea (33.3 percent), cucumber (36.1 percent) and pear melon (25.0 percent). There were 16.7 percent samples of grass carp and 8.3 percent samples of carp having antibiotics residuals.
