 Grain chalkiness is one of the important appearance qualities in rice marketing. But it is a complex trait, controlled by polygenes and easily influenced by the environment. Selection of elite rice varieties was on single-cross method as well as on the basis of quantitative genetics and interaction of rice varieties evaluated through genetic index in breeding. The analysis of 6 crossing from hybrid generations of each F2. populations has gained new knowledge and horizons in the number of genes controlling important traits such as chalkiness. The valuable contributions in genetic basis of genes governing rice chalkiness to increasing high quality rice varieties. Molecular marker has proven as a powerful tool in rice breeding program
  chalkiness character on crosses was evaluated using two micro satellite markers as RM492 and RM42. PCR products amplified from two these markers were observed on 3 percent agarose gel. 95 percent products were amplified with RM492 marker. On the other hands, relatively high polymorphism (74 percent) was recorded on rice varieties with RM492 marker. It may be inferred that RM42 marker linked to chalkiness gene with 50 percent individuals possessing chalkiness gene.
