The archaeological vestige of Con Rang (in La Chu Village, Huong Chu commune, Huong Tra district, Thua Thien Hue province) was discovered in March, 1987, then was largely excavated in the years of 1993, 1995 and 2002. After the last excavation in 2002, the entire central area of the vestige was razed to build the bypass of National Highway 1A, the section through Hue city. The results of the excavations show that Con Rang is a very important archaeological site in the system of relics of the Sa Huynh culture in Central Vietnam. The abundance of different types of artifacts found there proves that there was the existence of a community reaching a high level of technical development as well as economic and social life in Thua Thien Hue province in the early Iron Age. However, there are still many questions about Con Rang vestige which need to resolve satisfactorily to contribute to the clarification of history-culture course during ancient times in Central Vietnam.
