Objectives: to describe editorial activities of medical journals in Vietnam in the last 5 years. Methods: the cross-sectional descriptive study based on an indirect interview with self-filling questionnaire for editorial leadership, combined with collecting information by telephoning from Aug 2010 to Sep 2011. Results: 55.87 percent of units responded to the survey. Nearly half of journals (48.6 percent) belonged to Central Association. 100 percent of health departments had no medicaljournal. 80 percent of journals had ISSN index and graded. 60 percent of journals published quarterly and self-financing. Average number of members of editorial board was 14, the average number of editor replacement was lower (2.2 times). The average rate of medical trained editor was 89.7 percent. 12.1 percent of journals had experts for peer-reviewing manuscript 74.3 percent published on time. 81.8 percent had Collaborator's Guide. Conclusions: most of editorial boards had medical trained editors. Almost journals were graded. Number of journals having experts to peer-review manuscripts was rather low. Most of journals published on time and had Collaborator's Guide.
