Objectives: to determine the rate of hypertension in the older people in Hung Yen town. Methods: a cross-sectional study was carried out on 900 older people in Hung Yen town, from April 2008 to February 2009. Results: an average rate of hypertension in the older people in Hung Yen town was 28.2 percent
The rate of hypertension in the older people in Hung Yen town's wards (31.1 percent) was higher than that of communes (25.3 percent) (p0.05). There is no difference in rate of hypertension by gender. The rate of hypertension increased with age: in the 60-69-year age group was 21.3 percent, in group of aged 80 years and above was 44.9 percent. The rate of hypertension at the stage I was 15.5 percent and at the stage II was 12.7 percent. The prehypertention rate was 24 percent. Conclusions: the rate of hypertension in the older people in Hung Yen town's wards was higher than that in communes. The rate of hypertension increased with age, the higher age group has the higher rate of hypertension.
