Vietnam is one of the countries where the number of motorcycles and motorcycle related accidents is high in the world. Characteristics of traffic flow on the highway network is largely mixed traffic, on the other hand, infrastructure conditions is in poor condition. Therefore , the situation of traffic safety has been ever increasing seriuosly. Experience of Malaysia when applying exclusive lanes for motorcycles has show the decreased number of traffic accidents related to 39 percent. Norms and regulations system of Vietnam's current regulations also do not have exclusive lanes for motorcycles. Some investment projects have faced failure or applied inappropriate methodologies, which do not match with the actural of Vietnam. Therefore, the study of technical solutions to exclusive lanes for motorcycles on the highway with the goal of reducing traffic accidents and enhancing traffic flow is realistic. On the other hand, on basis of the fact that these solutions can be widened and served as a basis to develop and promulgate standards or design guidelines on exclusive lanes for motorcycles on the highway in Vietnamese conditions. This article presents a study of the results of the project "Research of technical solutions for motorcycle lane on Highway No.5" conducted by the Transport Development and Strategy Institute.
