Interferon regulatory factor 5 (IRF5) has been shown to be an important candidate gene in several immune-mediated diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus rheumatoid arthritis, me multiple sclerosis, Sjogren's syndrome. IgA nephropathy is characterized by IgA deposition in xac the mesangial region of the glomeruli. Therefore, the aim of this study is to test the association between IRF5 polymorphism and IgA nephropathy. The study did not find an association of the investigated SNPs with the disease susceptibility or severity. The data did not show any evidence of an association of the IRF5 gene with the development of IgA nephropathy or the risk for disease progression in this population.
