The book Technique du peuple annamite (Mechanics and Crafts of the Annamites) of Henri Oger is considered a unique research book with drawings, describing the life and activities of the Vietnamese in Hanoi in the early 20th century. However, this unique book hasn't been known much by the Vietnamese for a long time. It was not until the last decades of the 20th century when some research works of that book sporadically appeared
and 100 years after its appearance, it was reprinted to be widely introduced to the public. The.article is a fairly detailed review of major publications about that book over the past one hundred years. Then, it can be realized that there is still a shortage of thorough research works about the book, in terms of both text and content, especially all of the illustrations, which is the soul of this work. This leads to the reality that we have not been aware of the strengths and weaknesses of that book, the merit of the Vietnamese who took part in the work, and the real contribution of Henri Oger
as a result, copious values of this masterpiece have not been thoroughly exploited.
