 Objective: Estimated glomerular filtration rate (GFR) based on creatinine and cystatin C values in the blood. Methods: Subjects of study comprises 149 persons, divided into 2 groups: control group of 55 healthy people and 94 patients with renal failure in the different stages. Research methods: cross-sectional descriptive study. Results: In the control group, serum cystatin C and creatinine levels were 0.81 + or - 0.1 mg/L and 60.30 + or - 5.25 umol/L, respectively
  between these two parameters have a relationship fairly closely related to the variable r = 0.63, p 0.01. Value of GFR estimated by cystatin C and creatinine were: 124.09 + or - 26.02 mL/min and 119.57 + or - 11.69 mL/min. The cystatin C and creatinine concentrations were 4.35 + or - 1.74 mg/L and 520.42 + or - 413.73 umol/L, respectively. Value of area under the curve of cystatin C were higher than it's creatinine in the renal failure. Conclusion: 1. Serum cystatin C levels of men and women were no significant differences
  The sensitivity and the specificity of serum cystatin C concentrations were higher than the sensitivity and the specificity of serum creatinine
  2.The GFR estimated by cystatin C concentrations as the same of the Cockcroft and MRDR formulas based on serum creatinine.
