Based on the data analysis of from a survey conducted among EEP students at the National Economics University, the article discusses the benefits, risks, and limitations that students encounter when using ChatGPT in learning IELTS Academic Writing Task 2. The benefits include helping students generate ideas and outline their essays, providing samples for reference, offering feedback, explaining mistakes, giving advice on improving scores, and supplying topic-specific vocabulary. Besides, ChatGPT poses potential risks and limitations such as students’ dependence on the tool, paid subscription for upgraded versions, inaccurate essay scoring, and sample essays with unclear arguments and lacking evidence from personal experiences.
