Hard palate, formed from palatal bone and maxillary bone and covered by mucous membrane, is one of the important anatomical factors of craniofacial system. This study was undertaken to describe some morphological characteristics in a sample of the Vietnamese population. Methods: The cross-sectional study with 34 maxillary stone casts of Vietnamese dental students who ranged from 20 to 24 years of age. Digitization of geometric data using 3D Scanner was taken. The CAD PowerSHAPE 2013 software was applied to draw and measure the dimensions. The results: The width of palate at the canine position was 26.66 + or - 1.27 mm, at the first premolar position: 29.76 + or - 1.71 mm, at the second premolar position: 34.91 + or - 2.20 mm, at the first molar position: 37.78 + or - 2.59 mm, at the second molar position: 40.63 + or - 2.75 mm. The length IP-RP of palate was 47.65 + or - 2.68 mm. The height of palate at the canine position was 3.94 + or - 0.99 mm, at the first premolar position: 9.40 + or - 1.77 mm, at the second premolar position: 13.42 + or - 2.03 mml at the first molar position: 14.41 + or - 2.11 mm, at the second molar position: 13.95 + or - 2.08 mm. Conclusion: There were statistically significant differences in the palatal width at all of positions between male and female, except for the second premolar position. No statistically significant differences were found relative to gender regarding the palatal length, the palatal height and the palatal shape.
