So far in Vietnam does not have a systematic study of the factors related to depressive disorders in the elderly. Objective: Describe the factors related to depressive disorders in the elderly. Methods: Description, research that uses advanced psychological testing support. Results: In 45 patients with depression in the elderly aged 60 years or older. Patients in the study group mainly living in rural areas (54 percent). Mainly patients with introverted personality not stable (80 percent). The factors relevant to the circumstances of life: grandparents lived two (42.2 percent), 28.9 percent lived with children. Factors children, loved ones: 8.9 percent children of discord, family illness, death (6.7 percent). The elements from the wife, husband, wife and discord, is seriously ill spouse for (2.2 percent). The social factors: Economic instability (15.6 percent), retired (4.4 percent). The elements themselves: displaced (6.7 percent), lonely, widowed (22.2 percent). The body accompanying diseases: cardiovascular (33.3 percent), musculoskeletal (20 percent), gastrointestinal (17.8 percent). Conclusion: Psychological trauma is a common cause leading to depressive disorders in the elderly. Patients with symptoms are varied so the diagnosis easy to miss or mistake. It should be recognized for the diagnosis and treatment satisfaction.
