Cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out in 965 eligible patients of Methadone treatment program from May, 2008 to December, 2009 in Ho Chi Minh city and Hai Phong in the pilot period (467 patients in Hai Phong and 498 patients in Ho Chi Minh city). The result shows that the average age of patient is 31,5 year olds and 63.9 percent of eligible patients are single. Drug abuse behavior: Less than 10 years using drug (82.7 percent), Injecting drug (83.4 percent), 97.9 percent of drug users have participated in detoxification activity but unsuccessfully. High risk behaviors for HIV infections: The rate of addictors have used the same syringe appropriates 4.1 percent. The rate of people who haven't used condom in having sex with sex worker is 13,8 percent. Other social behavior: Violating the law (40.8 percent), the high rate of HIV infection is 28.4 percent, the rate of HBV infection is 16.4 percent and the rate of HBV infection is 56.9 percent. The study offers some recommendations of early developing pilot Methadone treatment for opioid addiction and strengthening the quality of health services in order to prevent HIV/AIDS infection in Hai Phong and Ho Chi Minh cities.
