Background: Vietnam ranks twelfth in 22 high TB burden countries. Danang city is having the high prevalence and incidence of tuberculosis but in the low HIV prevalence and incidence group of all cities and provinces in Vietnam. Objective: To determine the HIV prevalence among Tuberculosis patients in Danang city and the impact of HIV status on tuberculosis epidemiology. Materials and methods: the authors conducted a retrospective review from the Danang TB register and were cross-matched with city HIV register. A single HIV ELISA test performed. Results: During 1999-2010, of 15961 TB patients there were only 172 HIV/TB cases (1.08 percent). 82 percent of HIV/TB patients were male. The majority of participants (51.2 percent) were in 15-34 age groups. 60.5 percent was treated with ARV therapy. 73.84 percent was pulmonary TB, extra-pulmonary TB was 26.16 percent. Of pulmonary TB patients, 79.5 percent were AFB(+) and 20.5 percent was AFB(-). Cured patient rate was low (23.8 percent). Died patient was 36.0 percent, transfer out patient was 2.3 percent, default patient was 5.8 percent. Conclusions: HIV positive patients were only small part of the total TB patients in Danang city from 1999 to 2010 (1.08 percent), therefore HIV status almost inconsiderably influenced to TB epidemiology in the city.
