Activated carbon was successfully produced from char-side products of the pyrolysis of rice straw to produce biooil. The obtained activated carbon was characterized by FE-SEM, BET, EDX. From the chacracterization results, it revealed that the active carbon showed high surface area (1600-2506 m2/g) with uniform pore size distribution of (1.9-2.2 nm and 2-3 nm). The obtained product exhibited very high adsorption capacity of 70-93 percent for both polar solvent (acetone) and unpolar one (m-xylene), opening, the high application potential as new and effective adsorbent for environmental treatment.
