America constitutes a potential market to many of Vietnam fruits and vegetables but it also represents a demanding one with plenty of strict requirements on product quality, especially on hygiene and quarantine according to SPS agreements under WTO regulations, which have impacted on the fruit and vegetable exports. Although Vietnam has gained encouraging achievements in its exports of fruits and vegetables to the US market, their turnover still remains low, growth rate unstable, possibility of developing new products not high and frequently exposed to regulations on product hygiene and quarantine. It is therefore necessary to do research on the impacts of SPS agreements and come up with solutions to boost exports to the US market. The article employs secondary data and analyses the regulations of SPS agreements as well as of the US on hygiene and quarantine measures, their impacts on fruit and vegetable exports, from which suggests solutions to exploit the advantages and avoid negative effects to help enhance the competitiveness of Vietnamese fruits and vegetables as well as their exports to this market.
