Hand foot and mouth disease is caused by acute virus. The study is to describe some epidemiologic characteristics of the disease in Hai Phong city from 2011 to 2012. The results show that there were 9,814 infected cases, no deaths. The disease occurred in 14 among 15 districts, prevalence in 100.000 residents was higher at suburban districts (An Lao, Kien Thuy, Tien Lang, Thuy Nguyen) and periurban districts (Kien An, Duong Kinh, Hai An). The disease was found mainly in children less than 5 years old (98.68 percent), in both genders (male: 59,28 percent
female: 40,72 percent). Most of the infected cases were in mild stage (clinical grading I and IIa). In Degree I: 69,2 percent
Degree IIa : 28,45 percent
Degree IIb: 2,16 percent, Degree III: 0,19 percent. In Degree I: 24,71 percent, Degree IIa: 73,33 percent, Degree IIb: 1,96 percent, Degree III: nil. The disease appeared throughout the year, highly increased from March to May and from October to December. 47.89 percent of cases were tested EV71 postitive, 20.66 percent were tested another enteroviruses postitive and 31.45 percent were found negative.
